The Lafond Vineyard Pinot Noir is made of fruit exclusively sourced from Lafond Vineyard nestled in the Sta. Rita Hills and is ideally situated to produce Pinot Noir exhibiting the unique and exotic flavor profile one finds in only a few regions of the world. Specific areas within our vineyard exhibit elevated concentration and complexity due to soil type and exposure to the elements. We have planted eight distinct clones of Pinot Noir, each with subtle differences in flavor and aroma.

Each year, Bruce McGuire chooses from over 75 acres dedicated to eight different Pinot Noir clones to create a wine that best represents the vintage. This bottling contains a blend of four different Pinot Noir clones grown across the Lafond vineyard site.

These grapes benefit from the unique West/East orientation of the valley, and the well-drained, sandy soil.

Tasting Notes
The 2020 Lafond Vineyard Pinot Noir is a deep ruby color with violet undertones. Aromas of ripe strawberry, smashed bluefruit, and mild cedar fill the glass. Delicate fruit flavors of strawberry and cherry are followed by rich earth tones of potting soil and mushrooms. Pair this smooth, light-bodied red with mushroom risotto, duck confit, or goat cheese and dried fruit.

Winemaker Notes
The clonal composition is 33.3% Pommard, 33.3% clone 777, and 33.3% clone 667. These blocks are now 20 years old. With maturity, the vines are more balanced and the wines have more depth of flavor. This is the best barrels of the vintage.
