2021 LV Chardonnay
Lafond Vineyard
Sustainability in Practice Certified Wine
The Lafond Vineyard Chardonnay is crafted from the oldest block of Chardonnay in the Lafond Vineyard. Set in the heart of the temperate Sta. Rita Hills, winemaker Bruce McGuire is able to harvest these vines later in the season to produce rich, concentrated fruit. Mature, deep vines cut through calcium rich soil, adding minerality and texture to the wine.
After fermentation the wine is left on its 'lies', a combination of yeast cells and sediment, periodically stirred, allowed to go through malolactic fermentation, racked and bottled almost a year later. The oak barrels, the yeast cells and the sediment all add complexity to the wine.

Tasting Notes
Baked apple, citrus fruits and pie crust aromas all mingle and lift from the glass. The citrus, supported by notes of apricot, continues on the palate which is concentrated with a rich, creamy mid palate and strong supporting acidity. The finish is long and marked with hints of vanilla. This wine will continue to build richness as it ages in the bottle.

Our Lafond Chardonnay is produced from our oldest block of Wente clone, consistently the most concentrated and complete. It is the last block we pick. The extra hang time seems to be beneficial to flavor development.
